Quartz is the second most abundant mineral in the Earth's crust & there are many different varieties of quartz, several of which are semi-precious gemstones. The word quartz is derived from the German word "quarz" . Pure quartz, traditionally called rock crystal, is colorless and clear. It has been called the "ice of the gods" by many ancients, & has been recognized as having extraordinary physical and metaphysical properties. It has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs Scale. This specimen is colored by natural iron inclusions.
