The Science Behind the Beauty

Petrified wood forms when ancient trees are rapidly buried by volcanic ash or sediment, cutting off oxygen and halting decay. Over eons, silica and other minerals absorb into the porous wood, crystallizing within the cellular structure and completely replacing organic matter with stone—while preserving every detail of the original tree.

The stunning colors come from trace minerals present during fossilization: iron creates reds and rusts, manganese produces pinks, copper and cobalt yield greens and blues, while pure silica forms creams and whites.
