Malachite - Prized since antiquity
Malachites' name is from the Greek word for "mallow", a green herb. Malachite has been prized for centuries, used as a mineral pigment in green paints (Malachite pigment is found in the paintings of Egyptian tombs) and in inlay works, eye shadows, sculptures and jewelry.

Often resulting from weathering of copper ores, many times ti is found together with deep blue azurite, goethite, and calcite. It is extensively mined at the ancient King Solomon's Mines.
