Warm caramel freshwater pearls paired with multifaceted natural smoky quartz, finished with sterling silver floral bead caps and French ear wires. A quietly rich combination — earthy tones that work as well with denim as they do with silk.

Pearls are the only gemstone created by a living creature. Each one forms inside a freshwater mussel over the course of years, as the animal layers nacre — the same iridescent material lining its shell — around a small irritant. The depth of that layering is what produces a pearl’s signature luster, known as orient. Caramel and golden-toned pearls are among the rarest freshwater varieties, their warm color a product of the mussel’s natural environment rather than any treatment or dye.

Smoky quartz, their partner here, is clear quartz that has been naturally irradiated deep within the earth over millions of years — its brown-to-grey tones a result of that slow geological process. The two materials share an unhurried origin story.
