About Tiger's Eye
Tiger's eye is a chatoyant gemstone formed when crocidolite (blue asbestos) fibers are gradually replaced by quartz, preserving the fibrous structure within the stone. The result is a silky, luminous shimmer — known as chatoyancy — that shifts and rolls across the surface as the stone moves in light, mimicking the reflective quality of a cat's eye.
Most tiger's eye originates from South Africa and Western Australia, forming in metamorphic rock under intense heat and pressure over millions of years. Its golden-to-red-brown tones come from iron oxide present during the transformation process.
Lore & Meaning
Tiger's eye has been prized across cultures for thousands of years. Ancient Egyptians used it in the eyes of deity statues to represent divine vision and protection. Roman soldiers carried it into battle as a talisman for courage and clear judgment. In many traditions, it is considered a stone of balance — grounding the body while sharpening the mind.
It is associated with self-motivation, confidence, and the ability to see situations clearly without the distortion of emotion. Often called a stone of the solar plexus, it is thought to support willpower and purposeful action.
